Zadar Must-dos in February and March
Mediterranean climate is characterized in a few words by warm, even hot summers and mild winters, which allows Zadar to welcome tourists all year round. In spring and autumn and particularly summer the city may be buzzing with activity and probably seems more inviting to visit, but don’t be fooled into thinking that it hibernates in winter. For one, Zadar is a university city and where there are students, there sure is a lot going on. Croatians in general like to meet up and spend time in bars, sometimes for hours on end, regardless if over coffee or beer. So head to any popular bar and you’re sure to find some action. In case you decide to visit Zadar in February and March, here are some events you shouldn’t miss:
Love Getaway
Alfred Hitchcock was quoted as having said that ‘Zadar has the most beautiful sunset in the world (...)’ and what a better way to enjoy it then with your loved one. But the sunset is not the only thing Zadar has to offer to lovebirds on Valentine’s Day. A charity event Zaželi ljubav (‘Wish for love’) will be held on February 14 at 20:30 and it involves releasing thousands of lampions to light up the sky. Even if you’re single, there’ll be plenty of people looking for love or just fun or both. So, don’t miss out a truly romantic Valentine’s Day in Zadar and you’ll feel the love all around and in the air.
Let’s Dress up!
Carnivals are celebrated all over Croatia and Zadar is no exception. It basically involves a couple of days when you can be whoever you want to be, serious and critical of contemporary issues or just plain silly, without anybody raising their eyebrows at you. The Zadar carnival will be held from January 28 to March 2, when the central event, the traditional procession, takes place. If you happen to be in Zadar, just grab a costume, join the procession and enjoy the crowded streets filled with positive vibes!
Keep Your Eye on the Ball!
You may or may not be a sports fan, but you shouldn’t miss a game of basketball when in Zadar. The ambience during a basketball match truly is one of a kind. Suffice it to say that one of the most common graffiti in Zadar is Bog je stvorija čovika, a Zadar košarku (‘God may have created man, while Zadar created basketball’). Apart from regular matches of Croatian basketball league held mostly every other weekend in Zadar, the III OTP Maxibasketball Masters will be held from March 20-23. So, become a basketball fan(atic) even if for just one day and you won’t regret it!
Conclusion
If you’re looking for romance, fun, (sports) excitement, Zadar is your place to go, any time of year. From student parties to organized events of various kind, the city will have something in store for you. You might even be one of the lucky ones to find yourself in a snowball fight by the sea. In a nutshell, come to Zadar and you’ll have a ball!
