Ways to Travel in Dalmatia - Boutique Hostel Forum

Wanna rush through Croatia in the blink of an eye and yet see as much as possible? Have the time to explore it with calm? Wondering about how to come to point B from point A? There are several options to consider when heading to Dalmatia, some of them are fun, while others are just plain funny. But in the end, it’s all up to you and the travelling plan you have, or don’t have.

Hit the road, baby

Travelling by car can be convenient, because it’s you who decides where to go, when to stop for a break and some refreshment. It’s also relatively faster in comparison to buses and (Croatian) trains. The same is true for rentals, even though they add extra costs to the trip, besides paying for petrol and motorway tolls. In addition, you also need to figure out where to park the car without getting it towed or worrying about the ticket. Not to mention the fact that you need to keep count of every beer you take and the rest you have after a night on the town before you set off to another destination. Of course, you can also travel by car and not have those things to worry about - in such a case, all you need is your thumb. But then brace yourself for anything - getting a ride in no time, without spending a minute in the scorching summer sun with only a cardboard for some protection, or traffic jams and fully loaded cars driving past you while the kids in the backseat stick their tongue out at you.

Fly me to Zadar …

And then to Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, and elsewhere. Planes are fast and can even be cheap if you look for low-cost airlines and if you use domestic flights. For example, you fly to Zadar (and you can from a variety of destinations from all over Europe), use a taxi to get to a hostel and then spend a few days exploring the city on foot, the vicinity by bike (which can be rented for peanuts) and the islands by taking the ferry or excursion boats. And then you decide to visit the capital, board a plane and within an hour and less you’re already there.

Picturesque bus or train ride

If you want to take things slowly, then pick a bus. Naturally, there are buses that go directly from one destination to another (and it takes them just a bit more than a car would need), and then there are many more of those that take you on a journey through a number of villages and towns along the way and allow you to get to see a bit more of Croatia. Whether you want it or not. And provided you have all the time in the world. The same goes for graffiti-adorned trains. Sure, there are modern and fast trains in Croatia, but have some fun and get a glimpse of the past and the present by enjoying a slow ride through amazing scenery.

Road, tracks or air

Yes, Croatia has all the options: planes, buses, trains, car rentals and what not. Some of them are more reliable, faster, cheaper, and generally more fun than the others. But it all comes down to where you want to go and when you want to get there on what budget. Just allow yourself to have fun along the way. After all, a great trip for an even better holiday is not so much about how’s, it’s more about who with’s.

So, take our advice and fly to Zadar or use that thumb for some adventure!
