How to Beat the Winter Blues - a City Break to Zadar

The days are shorter, it’s cold and misty outside, the little sunshine we get disappears before we get the chance to make the most of it. We lack motivation and energy and everything just seems so much harder to achieve. In fact, blah seems to be the general feeling. It’s that time of year we want to leave behind as soon as possible. But that needn’t be so. We can, in fact, fight it - by embracing the season, by doing winter-related activities, by grabbing a cup of tea and cozying up in front of TV or computer while engaging in hour-long chats with friends. And while we’re at it, plan our next summer holiday or possibly an even less distant get-away.

City break to Zadar …

… might just turn out to be the perfect solution to fight the winter blues, to use a few days to recharge and get the necessary energy, to start focusing more on the bloom of the spring ahead rather than the gloom of today. Sure, the weather will probably be volatile, but don’t over-think the trip and rather accept the challenge. After all, Zadar in off-season is not swarmed with tourists, the prices are friendlier and tourist workers rested and more likely to go out of their way to show you around the city, to tell you its stories, the ones that cannot be found in tourist guides. It’s precisely the time of year to get to know the local people and their customs, because it’s so much easier to spot them and notice their (funny) ways.

Or just imagine it …

If an actual city break doesn’t meet your budget or you just don’t seem to be able to take a few days off, planning a holiday in Zadar doesn’t cost a thing while it can give you something to look forward to. So, if you can’t experience it firsthand at this point, envisage the joy you’ll get to feel when you witness the most magnificent sunset in the world as you listen to the unique sound of the Sea Organ or the amazing light show as produced by the Greeting to the Sun. Become the expert on Zadar, read about its history, stories and legends, find out the story behind Kalelarga and People’s Square as well as Five Wells Square, know where to find the best views. Your trip will be so much the better once it happens and, till then, you’ll fill your heart with the sweet joy of expectation.

Life’s a laugh …

… in case you forgot, because the winter blues has left its mark. As you plan your city break or next summer holiday remember to whistle along the legendary Monty Python’s song Always Look on the Bright Side of Life and you’ll see your winter sky clear up...
